Speech on EU-Russia foreign relations

On 9 April 2017 Prof. Trunk gave a speech on "EU-Russia relations: Need for a new evaluation - which steps should be considered?". The speech was part of the "Day of Europe" program organized by the University of Applied Sciences for Administration at Altenholz.

Joint seminar on comparative civil procedure law and ADR in Hanoi

From 3 - 7 April 2017 the Institute organized jointly with the Hanoi Law University a seminar on comparative civil procedure law and ADR, taking place in Hanoi. In addition, Prof. Trunk gave a speech on comparative German and Vietnamese commercial law with a view to the recent accession of Vietnam to the CISG in a workshop on issues related to the CISG and the Vietnamese Commercial Law at Hanoi Law University on 4 April 2017.

Kiel team participates in Willem C. Vis Moot in Hongkong 2017

From 24 March - 2 April 2017 a team of the Law Faculty of Kiel University participated in the Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Hongkong. The team was coached by the Institute of East European Law. Prof. Trunk served as an arbitrator in the Moot.

From 28 - 30 September 2016 the Institute of East European Law participated in the 2016 Annual Conference of the Russian-German Law Institute, which was held at the Saratov State Law Academy in Saratov/Russia. The conference was devoted to legal aspects of migration. Professor Trunk as co-chairman of the Russian-German Law Institute gave a speach on legal measures passed so far by the EU and Germany in the context of the current migration crisis.

From 24 Nov. 2014 until 12 Dec. 2014 a group of students of economics of the Higher School of Economics (Vysshaja Shkola Ekonomiki) at Moscow accompanied by Doc. Dr. Olga Klochko visited Kiel for a study program. The group was cared for by the Institute of East European Law and participed in several English language classes at Kiel University in the fields of international economics and international economic law. Furthermore the group participated in the conference of the Institute on dispute settlement in/with countries of the region of Caucasus-Central Asia on 28/29 Nov. 2014. On 2 Dec. 2014 Doc. Dr. Klochko made a presentation on basic structures of the economy of international trade.

On 28 and 29 November 2014 the Institute has successfully carried-through in Kiel in the framework of our research project (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation) on the law of international trade with the region of Caucasus-Central Asia a Conference "Settlement of International Trade Disputes in the Region of the Caucasus and Central Asia". In the conference took part more than 40 speakers from different countries and international organizations (European Commission, UNCITRAL, WTO, Eurasian Economic Commission, Ministry of Economics of Russia, Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan, Supreme Court of Georgia, courts of arbitration in Stockholm and Kazakhstan et al.).

DAAD-scholarships at the Institute for students and Ph. candidates from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine

The DAAD has granted the Institute of East European Law scholarships for 15 students and PhD candidates from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine for a study and research stay in Kiel. In the center of the stay there will be a student conference (in the framework of a seminar) in English language on 19/20 December 2014 on Legal Aspects of the EU Association Agreements with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the context of the EU's Eastern Partnership initiative. In addition to the conference there will be an excursion to Brussels and Luxembourg from 26 - 30 January 2015. Other students/doctorands (from Kiel or other universities, also abroad) are welcome to participate in the conference upon application. From 3 - 6 Nov. 2014 Doc. Dr. Evgenija Gerasimova, head of the chair of international and European law of the Baltic Federal Immanuel Kant University at Kaliningrad is on visit to the Institute of East European Law. On 3 Nov. 2014 Dr. Gerasimova held in the course of Prof. Trunk on comparative law a guest lecture on the relationship between the jurisprudence of the Russian Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights and participated on 4 Nov. 2014 in a discussion round in the Institute on topical developments in Russian constitutional law.

Seminar on comparative and international sports law in Lausanne

On 5 and 6 June 2014 the Institute carried-through a Seminar on international and comparative sports law with particular focus on Eastern Europe. The seminar took place in Lausanne in cooperation with Lausanne University (Professor Christoph Kern) and included a visit to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and the UN in Geneva.

Professor Boguslavskiy 90th birthday

On 8 June 2014 Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Mark Boguslawskiy celebrated his 90th birthday. Professor Boguslavskiy, who now lives in Kiel, is the most eminent Russian scholar in private international law still alive. From 1994 - 1997 he was the director of the Institute of East European Law.

Professor Lado Chanturia receives doctor honoris causa degree at Kiel University

On 22 November 2013 Prof. Dr. Lado Chanturia (University of Tbilisi) was granted the doctor honoris causa degree

by the Law Faculty of Kiel University for his scientific work, which is centered on comparative private law of Georgia, Germany and the EU, and for his accomplishments as a legal reformer and high-ranking judge in Georgia. From 2011 - 2013 Professor Chanturia taught as a guest professor at the Institute of East European Law. At the occasion of the doctor honoris causa ceremony the Foreign Minister of Georgia, Ms. Panjikidze, announced that the Government of Georgia has nominated Professor Chanturia as the next Ambassador of Georgia to Germany.

Lectures on Schleswig-Holstein and Russia at the Universitätstag 2013

At the 15th Day of the University (Universitätstag) at Bordesholm on 7 July 2013 Prof. Trunk and Prof. Lyudmila Markina (State Tretjakov Gallery, Moscow) gave lectures with relation to Russia. The topic of the lecture of  Prof. Trunk was Relations between Schleswig-Holstein and Russia in History and Present. The lecture of Prof. Markina dealt with Links between Schleswig-Holstein and Russia at the Time of Czar Peter the Great in historical portraits, starting with the marriage of  Duke of Holstein-Gottdorf, Karl Friedrich, with the elder daughter of Czar Peter, Anna Petrovna.

3rd Summer School on German Business Law in Russian language

From 22.7.-3.8.2013 the Institute organised for the third time in cooperation with partner institutions (Free University of Berlin/Prof. Burkhard Breig and University of Applied Sciences RheinMain/Prof. Rainer Wedde) a Summer Course on German Business Law in Russian Language. This year there were 29 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, among them staff of ministries of justice and courts, notaries, law teachers, PhD and master students. The course took place at different locations in Germany. This time it included, among others, visits to the German Bundestag in Berlin, the Bundesgerichtshof (Federal Supreme Court) in Karlsruhe, the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, international law firms etc.
